Providence Culinary Training 

Providence students come from all walks of life. 

Looking to jumpstart your future in the fast-paced, growing hospitality industry?

​

Second Harvest’s Providence course offering offerings include:
 

  • Culinary Fundamentals
    Meets Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    for six weeks

  • Advanced Culinary
    Meets Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
    for 6 weeks + a one-week internship

  • Barista 
    Meets Monday- Friday for 3 weeks
    The first 2 days meet from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the remaining days meet 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

  • GRACE
    Culinary programming for adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  

     

Registration fees vary by track. Options for financial assistance will be discussed during your required tour. Additional program details are available below.

Since its inception, Providence has been opening the doors of opportunity for community members facing barriers to employment. Some of our students have experienced incarceration, others substance abuse or some other significant challenge. Providence is a place for second, third, and even fourth chances.

Prerequisite - Life Skills and Food Safety

Duration - Six weeks, including Life Skills and ServSafe). Classes meet Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

GRACE

Duration - Six weeks, held on Wednesdays from 5:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m

​

GRACE is a hands-on adaptive culinary program designed to empower cooks of any ability level with skills and knowledge to operate with independence in a kitchen setting. This program was designed by Chef Daryl Pobanz and is co-taught by Second Harvest’s Providence program chefs and Steve and Stephen Jones, a father and son duo who went through the core culinary training program together and have been sharing their skills and love of cooking with others ever since.

Sessions cover:

  • Basic kitchen equipment & appliances

  • Knife skills basics

  • Microwave & stove top cooking

  • Preparing soups, sandwiches, favorites like mac & cheese, and tasty healthy options such as chicken & broccoli.
