Fueling Futures. Strengthening Communities

Updated: 6 days ago

At Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC, we know that change happens when communities come together. That’s why we’re excited to kick off another year of Walmart and Sam’s Club’s Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign—an opportunity for all of us to take simple actions that add up to something powerful.

Now through March 31, 2025, you can help ensure that families facing food insecurity have the meals they need:

🍎 Donate at checkout at Walmart or Sam’s Club.

🛒 Buy participating products, and brands will contribute to the cause.

💻 Give online to Second Harvest through the campaign. (All gifts stay local.)

We also invite you to watch our new Fueling Futures. Strengthening Communities. series. Each week through March, we'll shine a light on our mission and the impact of your support.

Food Access + Distribution: Delivering Hope, One Meal at a Time

Access to fresh, nutritious food should be a given in communities, recognizing as we do that healthy food fuels all else we do in life. Yet, for many families in our region, the rising cost of living makes it harder than ever to put healthy meals on the table. In our first video in this series, see how Second Harvest, with support from partners like Walmart and Sam’s Club, is ensuring that fresh food reaches the communities that need it most.

Workforce Development: Cooking Up Bright Futures

A good meal does more than fill an empty stomach—it creates opportunities. Through our Providence Culinary Training program, students gain the skills and confidence to launch careers in the food industry. Thanks to partners like Walmart and Sam’s Club and their Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, we're helping passionate students transform their lives through the power of food.

Meet a student whose journey is just beginning and hear how this program is opening doors to a better future in this week's installment of our Fueling Futures. Strengthening Communities. series.

And remember, now through March 31, 2025, you can help build pathways to opportunity when you:

🍎 Donate at checkout at Walmart or Sam’s Club.

🛒 Buy participating products, and brands will contribute to the cause.

💻 Give online to Second Harvest through the campaign. (All gifts stay local.)

Nutrition Services: Nourishing Families, One Lesson at a Time

Healthy eating starts with knowledge, and at Second Harvest Food Bank, we're making nutrition education accessible to families across our region. With support from Walmart, our many partners, and YOU, our Cooking Matters classes empower parents, children, and seniors to cook nutritious meals on a budget—because everyone deserves the opportunity to eat in ways that support good health. In this week's installment of our Fueling Futures. Strengthening Communities. series, we see how simple lessons help to make the healthy choice the easy choice...while also supporting connection and community.

Remember, now through March 31, 2025, you can support Second Harvest programs working to support individual and community health when you:

🍎 Donate at checkout at Walmart or Sam’s Club.

Sustainability: Reducing Waste, Feeding Communities

Food waste is a serious challenge—but at Second Harvest, our dedicated staff and volunteers tackle it head-on every day. By rescuing high-quality surplus food and redirecting it to families in need, we're ensuring good food doesn’t go to waste. Thanks to generous donations from Walmart, Sam’s Club, and our other grocery retail partners, we’re transforming excess into nourishment while reducing waste for a stronger, more food-secure community.

Throughout this month’s Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign, Walmart team members have been actively supporting the daily work of our Food Bank—giving their time and lending a hand where it’s needed most. In the video linked below, Leanne Hurley, Market Coordinator for Winston-Salem, shares how hands-on engagement makes this annual campaign even more meaningful for her and her teammates.

Every dollar. Every meal. Every act of kindness fuels a future where everyone can access the food they need to thrive and succeed. Thank you for standing with us!
