Today, store managers and associate managers from Food Lion helped to prepare hundreds of meals for children and disabled adults as part of our Providence Community Meals program.
"Our associates are eager to get out in the community and give back in the communities in which they are located," said Angela Wheeler with Food Lion.
For the last five years, Food Lion Feeds has been sending associates out into the community as part of their"The Great Pantry Makeover" effort, providing significant renovations to help local food pantries better serve their clients. Throughout Hunger Action Month this year, Food Lion Feeds will be restocking the shelves of 105 smaller organizations throughout their 10-state footprint, including ones in Second Harvest's network.
Additionally, Food Lion associates are helping us prepare hot meals for after-school programs served by the food bank. In an incredible gesture of support and knowing that we are growing our Community Meals programs, Food Lion has also provided the funding to upgrade Second Harvest's kitchen space with new flooring, a new drop ceiling, and installing necessary and appropriate outlets for our kitchens.
