Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC has joined in Feeding America’s "Elevating Voices to End Hunger Together," initiative to collect input from people facing food insecurity. The effort will gather and amplify insights to be shared with the second White House Conference on Hunger, Health, and Nutrition, set to convene on September 20, 2022.

The first White House Conference on Food, Nutrition, and Health held more than 50 years ago in 1969, was a pivotal event that influenced the country’s food policy agenda for the next 50 years. The conference helped elevate hunger as a national priority and sparked major improvements and expansion to the federal nutrition programs.

In order to inform the ideas and solutions that arise from the 2022 conference, Second Harvest Food Bank is joining with Feeding America to collect input from people who have or are experiencing food insecurity. Our goal is to engage people with lived experience to contribute to creating solutions.

To ensure that all neighbors voice can be included, an online questionnaire was developed by Feeding America to capture feedback. You can access (and share) them here:

The Feeding America network, of which Second Harvest is part, provides billions of meals to tens of millions of people each year. The network covers every county, borough and parish. Elevating Voices aims to amplify the power and voices of neighbors across the country.

We believe that communities understand the solutions to their problems better than anyone. Our goal in participating in the Elevating Voices initiative is to lift those solutions to inform policies and programs to end hunger.

"Elevating Voices to End Hunger Together" will connect directly with individuals and families with living or lived experience of food insecurity through listening sessions, questionnaires, and text message conversations. Data and insights will be published in a report later this summer by Feeding America. At the local level, Second Harvest is engaging the communities it serves via listening sessions and online questionnaires.
