For me, the holiday season is still full of wonder.
I believe this time of year creates something very special within people. Maybe it is the traditions, the holiday gatherings, the promise of a New Year – or maybe it is just the opportunity to spend some time with those we love and care about.
Unfortunately, we know that for many in our community, the holidays can be full of worry and uncertainty that they won’t have the resources for gifts or travel to see loved ones or holiday meals.
At Second Harvest, we believe that the uncertainty of food should never be part of this equation – not during the holidays and not at any other time of the year.
Our vision is that this holiday will be one of plenty, for all of us.
This holiday season, I am asking that you join us in taking another step to make this a reality by making an investment in the transformative work of Second Harvest Food Bank. Your gift to Second Harvest gives a child the nutrition he needs to succeed in school, gives a parent the energy she needs to work and care for her family, gives a senior the comfort that he doesn’t need to choose between eating or taking his medication, and gives a struggling neighbor the opportunity to gain the skills that lead her on a path to a career in the food industry.
Perhaps the wonder I feel during the holidays is different than what it was when I was a child, or different even from when my wife and I were young parents with little children at home. The joyous holiday feeling as I grow older is more about human nature and being able to bear witness to the incredible generosity of our community.
May this year’s holidays bring you and your family great joy through the gifts received and, most of all, from the gifts given.
Happy Holidays,
Eric Aft CEO Second Harvest Food Bank
